ZanzibarHelp is a thought, a true and helpful thought dedicated to the needs of the people and children of Zanzibar.
This idea was born several years ago. Marco and his wife, Graziella visited and lived in Unguja island. Together decided to commit themselves to bring their help to the poorest families and try to teach women how to emancipated themselves.
Unfortunately, in August 2018 Graziella died, but during the course of the illness and during their talks she made Marco promise something: to carry out their projects in Zanzibar
In September 2019 Marco moved permanently to Zanzibar, first to Uroa, then in February 2020 to Nungwi.
Shortly after, the Coronavirus pandemic breaks out and the population of Zanzibar fell into the abyss of unemployment. Marco realizes that he cannot just stay on the beach sunbathing. Marco starts asking relatives and friends for help. Through Facebook he tries to organize at least one food distribution to support families who suddenly found themselves in harsh conditions. The answer to his call was unexpectedly great. Marco, with some Zanzibari and Italian volunteers completed this first food distribution. Since then Marco has not stopped.
Today ZanzibarHelp not only distributes food packages to the most needy families, but it has opened other projects:
- a class for disabled children
- water collection tanks building in order to ensure public hygiene
- the buildin of a network of vegetable gardens dedicated to the production of “Zero kilometers” agricultural products and permaculture
- medical support provision to people who otherwise would not have access to the health system
